Tarmac has unveiled its eMixer Discovery Programme, featuring five electric
concrete mixer vehicles, in a move that reinforces its commitment to
sustainable innovation in the construction industry. Developed in collaboration
with Renault Trucks and McPhee Mixers, part of TVS Interfleet, this initiative
reflects Tarmac’s drive to transition towards zero-emission operations.
Building on its pioneering success in 2022, when it introduced the UK’s
first fully electric concrete mixer, Tarmac aims to lead the way with its
long-term strategy to establish a fully electric fleet. The eMixer Discovery
Programme serves as a platform for reducing carbon emissions and promoting
sustainable practices across its supply chain. The launch of these additional
electric mixers showcases Tarmac's dedication to pushing boundaries and
providing industry-leading solutions.
A key feature of the programme is its innovative “try before you buy” model,
allowing supply chain partners to lease electric mixer trucks for a six-month
trial period. This approach offers contractors an opportunity to assess vehicle
performance and the benefits of electrification within their operations before
committing to long-term investment.
“Tarmac is leading the way in sustainable innovation within the construction
industry,” said Ben Garner, Head of Logistics at Tarmac. “Our eMixer Programme
is an exciting step towards making the shift to zero-emission vehicles smoother
and more accessible for our suppliers. By providing a de-risked transition
model, we are enabling real progress.”
The partnership between Tarmac and Renault Trucks underlines the importance
of collaboration in achieving sustainability goals. Roger Clarke, Head of
Electromobility and Customer Advanced Solutions at Renault Trucks UK and
Ireland, added, “Tarmac’s eMixer Discovery Programme sets a benchmark for the
construction industry, accelerating the adoption of zero-emission transport
solutions and driving progress across the sector.”
Concrete Haulage Limited, one of Tarmac’s suppliers, is already operating
the first new electric mixer truck at Tarmac’s Kings Cross site. Costin, a
representative from the company, shared, “Partnering with Tarmac is a thrilling
opportunity to advance sustainable transport in our sector. Operating this
electric mixer allows us to contribute to building a greener future.”
With innovation and sustainability at its core, Tarmac continues to lead the
charge towards a decarbonised construction industry.
