Grundon Waste Management is paving the way for

a sustainable future with its recent acquisition of the New Generation DAF XD

450 8x4, equipped with a Boughton hook-loader body. This strategic move

underscores the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability, as it

leverages DAF's XD product range to future-proof operations to 2030 and beyond.

As the largest family-owned waste collection

and recycling company in the UK, Grundon is set to expand its fleet with a

variety of DAF XD models. This includes multi-axle rigid trucks for diverse

applications and four zero-emissions DAF XD Electric 28-tonne vehicles, which

are scheduled for delivery in September. Stephen Townsend, Group Fleet Engineer

at Grundon, emphasized the pivotal role these vehicles will play in the

company’s fleet evolution.

> “The XD is going to be a key vehicle

for us,” Townsend explains. “It offers a robust platform for future

technological advancements, exceptional visibility, and critical safety

features tailored for urban environments. With their impressive Direct Vision

Standard (DVS) ratings straight from the factory, both the XD and XD Electric

models will ensure our business stays ahead of the curve into 2030 and beyond.”

The new DAF XD 450 eight-wheel 32-tonner

stands out for its ability to achieve a 4-Star DVS rating directly from the

factory. This capability surpasses Grundon’s previous DAF CF model,

highlighting the XD’s advanced design and safety credentials. Powered by a

450bhp, 10.8-litre engine and featuring DAF's ‘FAD’ 8x4 axle configuration, the

XD 450 is built for performance and reliability.

Grundon's commitment to sustainability shines

with the order of four DAF XD Electric trucks. These 28-tonne GVW 6x2 rigid

vehicles are powered by 420-kW battery packs and feature DAF's ‘FAN’

rear-steering axle setup, achieving a maximum 5-Star DVS rating. Additional

diesel-powered XD models, including a three-seat skip-loader designed for

driver training, are set to join the fleet in 2025. All vehicles are supplied

by DAF Dealer Channel Commercials, ensuring comprehensive support.

> “The return to DAF with the XD

eight-wheeler is a significant step for us,” Townsend adds. “The direct vision

offered by the truck is outstanding, complemented by a spacious and

well-appointed cab that our drivers appreciate. We're particularly excited about

the DAF Electric models as they align perfectly with our commitment to

decarbonizing our fleet. Furthermore, DAF and Channel Commercials' exceptional

aftersales support ensures maximum uptime and a true partnership we can rely

on.”
